Kristina Žalytė “Taelpa”

On September 7, at 3 p.m. exhibition TAELPA by artist Kristina Žalytė opens in Marcinkonių
station gallery.

The space is filled with pots, bas-reliefs, drawings, and the frame of the altar. A text, a song without
accompaniment, can be heard through headphones. It is as if someone has “swept through”, but not
devastated, but found something to worship, something to surrender to. The exhibition intertwines
primitive, bare and ornamented forms, recognisable domesticity and the sacred. What happens
when one wants to fit, to contain oneself in a container, a pot, a grail, to become a container in
which everything swings, believes, dies, rises and spills.

Kristina Žalytė (b.1993) is an interdisciplinary artist, who graduated from the Glasgow School of
Art in the United Kingdom in 2017 with a BA in Painting and Printmaking, as well as a
professional qualification of a carpenter in 2024 at the “Sodžiaus meistrai” craft school. In 2024 she
was awarded a scholarship from the Lithuanian Council for Culture. TAELPA is the artist’s first
solo exhibition in Lithuania.

The exhibition will be open from September 7 to 29. The exhibition can be visited on Saturdays –
Sundays, 12:00 – 17:00, or by appointment by phone. +37061416255.
Address: Marcinkonys station gallery, Kastinio st. 1C, Marcinkonys, Varėna sav.
