“Verticals of Hope” by Marijonas Verbel

On Saturday, October 3, the exhibition “Verticals of Hope” by Marijonas Verbel will be opened at Marcinkonys station gallery.

In the solo exhibition “Verticals of Hope,” Marijonas Verbel steps away from abstract symbols previously dominant in their work and chooses direct openness instead. Fabrics stretching from ceiling to floor hang in the space as continuous verticals, as if creating a shelter within a tangible architecture of hope.

These works materialize a year of personal reflections, conversations, and creative workshops on the theme of hope. The woven and stitched objects become site-specific monuments for hope that is pushed aside by collective noise.

Marijonas Verbel is an artist based in Vilnius who often works with weaving and art education. They are interested in blurring the distinction between craft and art, in how titles can create scenarios and activate visuals in the viewers’ minds. In 2023, Verbel’s work “Warp. Weft. Shuttle – The Three Weavers” won the Antanas Tamošaitis Prize for interpreting folk traditions in their art.
